| |  Fortaleza is a modern city, but still keeps signs from the past in museums, churches, fortresses, squares, stations, theaters and historic buildings. The city center is filled with those memories, such as the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, built on the same place where the city originated, and the Luz Palace, a beautiful construction in classic style from the end of the 18th century, which used to be the State Government headquarters.

 Going to the beaches is, without a doubt, one of the best activities for those coming to Fortaleza. Iracema, Meireles and Futuro beaches are among the most popular options within the city. To walk on the Beira Mar Avenue promenade from the start, at Mucuripe, up to the Ingleses Bridge, at Iracema Beach, is a must-do walk, and quite reinvigorating. Boat trips by the beach margins are ideal for those wishing to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

The Cearense cuisine is a flavorful mixture of the Portuguese cuisine, which gives preference to fish, with the indigenous foods and the African spices. There are hundreds of hotels, inns, hostels and flats, featuring the Cearense hospitality. |  Jericoacoara has several of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil, with many sand dunes and rocky coasts, coconut groves and an incredibly blue sea. Located 310 km west of Fortaleza, it is almost isolated and access still depends on special vehicles capable of crossing the sand dunes that separate it from the nearest road. Its streets are not paved and electricity is recent. Jeri, as it is called today, still preserves the features of a small fishing village. To preserve the environment, an enormous area around the village was transformed into Ubajara and Jericoacoara National Park.

• Driving along beaches at Mangue Seco and dunes of Tatajuba, we can see the old Tatajuba village, which was covered by the movements of the sand dunes.

• Hike to Pedra Furada (60 minute walk to Jericoacora’s landmark)
